Converting a kill

Turning a kill into a tower, a dragon or camps.

From Silver
Professor Zéphyrinthe Academy's instructor

« Enemy down? A door swings open for a few seconds. Count who's still alive, then walk through: the tower right there, the dragon, their camps. »

  1. The kill

Your bot lane kills both of theirs. They wait in their base for several seconds: that's your window.

  2. Count who's left

Three of them are alive: top, jungle, mid, all far from bot and the dragon. Nobody can stop you.

  3. Cash in

Your wave and your duo take their tower; your jungler and mid take the dragon. All before they're back.

  4. The classic mistake

Same kills, then you walk back to base and everyone farms. They come back to an intact map: the kill bought nothing.

When to do it

  • You just got a kill: they're out for several seconds, and longer as the game goes on.
  • Your wave is with you: plates or the tower are right there, with nobody to defend them.
  • An objective is nearby: the dragon, or their camps, with one fewer of them to contest.

How to keep it

  • Count who's alive, and where: if the others are far, you have time; if they're close, careful.
  • Take what's closest first: the tower in front of you before an objective across the map.
  • Nothing doable? Back: you spend your gold while they're dead, and lose nothing in lane.
The classic mistakeA kill, then farming or backing as if nothing happened. They come back to the same map: the kill was worth its gold and nothing more.
Good to knowA kill doesn't win games, what you take with it does. Don't force it either: if the survivors outnumber you nearby, a safe back already counts.

The tip for your rank

Iron to Silver

After a kill, ask one question: what can I hit right now? Often, it's the tower in front of you.

Gold to Emerald

Look at the map before you choose: count who's alive and where they are, then go for the tower, the dragon or their camps.

Diamond and above

Call the play before the kill lands: your team is already heading for the objective when they die, and none of the window is lost.
