Vision before an objective

Light the pit a minute early, and blind them.

From Gold
Professor Zéphyrinthe Academy's instructor

« Walk into a dark pit and you're the experiment, not the scientist. Light it a minute early, clear their wards, and let them arrive blind. »

  1. A minute before

The dragon spawns in a minute. Your lanes are pushed: your team moves to the pit ahead of theirs.

  2. Light the pit and its ways in

A ward on each way in from their side, and a control ward on yours. The whole area around the pit is lit.

  3. Clear their wards

Your support's Oracle Lens finds their ward, and you destroy it. Now they're blind around the pit.

  4. You see them coming

The spawn: you're in place. They walk in through your wards, and you see them before they see you.

  5. The classic mistake

A few seconds before the spawn, no vision: you walk to the pit in the dark. All five of them are there.

When to do it

  • About a minute before the dragon or the Baron: that's when the vision is set, not at the spawn.
  • Your lanes are pushed: you can leave them first and reach the pit before their team.
  • They're already around the pit: without vision, don't go in to find out. Look first.

How to keep it

  • Ward the pit and its ways in: the entrances from their jungle, the river, your side.
  • Clear their wards with the Oracle Lens, and put a control ward on your side of the pit.
  • Get there first, together: pushed lanes let your team move before theirs.
The classic mistakeWalking to the pit a few seconds before the spawn, in the dark. Their five were waiting there, and they saw you first.
Good to knowIf they got there first with vision, don't force it. Trade it for something elsewhere on the map instead of walking into their setup.

The tip for your rank

Iron to Silver

Simple reflex: when the dragon is about to spawn, put a ward near its pit on your way there. Never walk to it blind.

Gold to Emerald

Start a minute early: wards on the ways in, their wards cleared, a control ward on your side. Then the fight happens where you can see.

Diamond and above

Push the lanes first, then set up together: the team that owns the vision around the pit decides when and where the fight starts.
